B’nai B’rith Housing partnered with the City of Newton to build a 57 unit, mixed income home ownership community on Commonwealth Avenue to increase the stock of affordable and reasonably priced housing in Newton in 2008. B’nai B’rith Housing worked in collaboration with neighbors and city officials to create a development that reflects the needs of the Newton community.

The one and two  bedroom condominiums serve the growing need of first time buyers, new families, and older adults looking to downsize. Fifteen of the units were sold as affordable housing to new homebuyers with incomes at or below 80% of the median income adjusted for household size. The balance of the units have provided important homeownership opportunities moderately priced market rate housing.

The entire development sold out at the height of the recession. Due to the project’s success, B’nai B’rith Housing was able to repay $300,000 of Community Preservation Funds back to the City of Newton.

In 2010, 33Comm received the national Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Jack Kemp Workforce Housing Models of Excellence Award.
