This winter, the City of Newton will be looking for a partner to redevelop a parking lot in Newtonville into transit oriented housing and commercial space. The site on Austin Street is next to Starbucks and across from Star Market. B’nai B’rith Housing intends to submit a proposal to develop this lot and continues to seek community input.
Increasing the number of affordable housing units has long been a goal of the City of Newton. The Austin Street parking lot is no exception: affordable housing has been recommended as a key priorities for the new development as the city will likely require 25% of the new housing units to be affordable.
